The place

Signature cocktail at Baz Lisboa, Cais do Sodré

Baz Lisboa is not a restaurant. It's an audio-resto-bar, a concept born from a Maz, a Lebanese entrepreneur who had originally planned to open in Paris, until a week in Lisbon changed the plan entirely. He found the city's rhythm on Rua da Boavista and never left.

The space is built around three things held in equal weight: food, cocktails, and sound. The menu is seasonal and deliberately concise, ten dishes from cold plates through dessert, designed to accompany the evening rather than anchor it. The bar program runs on signature cocktails and wines. The music, curated by a roster of local and international DJs, is not background. It's a reason to come.

The interiors reflect the same restraint. Warm, understated, with a layout that gives the sound system and the energy room to breathe. The room's defining element is its bar, a single piece of wood treated with shou sugi ban, a Japanese charring technique that turns the surface black and hard. It runs the full length of the room and seats more than twenty people. It is the architectural centerpiece of the space, and it shaped the entire visual approach from the start.

The work

Volet was brought in across five months of separate commissions to build the visual identity of Baz from the inside out. The brief centered on the bar itself, on beautiful light, and on an aesthetic that matched the venue's restraint without flattening its energy. Flash photography captured the kitchen in motion during meal prep, portraits put faces to the project, cocktail shots worked the bar's black surface against the warm light of the room, and night mood work documented the space as it actually lives after dark. Four distinct registers, shot across multiple sessions, building toward a coherent visual language as the venue found its footing.

The impact

The images went on to be used across the venue's press coverage, picked up organically by Timeout Lisboa, Lisboa Secreta, and Sapo. No campaign, no coordinated push. The work circulated because it was good.
